Dry mango powder popularly called Amchoor or amchur also referred to as mango powder, is a fruity spice powder made from dried unripe green mangoes and is used as a citrusy seasoning. It is produced in India and is used to flavor foods and add the nutritional benefits of mangoes when the fresh fruit is out of season.
Amchur Powder is made by drying slices of raw unripe mangoes and crushing them into fine powdered form to get a smooth, beige-colored blend. The powder is then packed in a way to maintain the tanginess of the mangoes every time you open the packet.
Amchur powder is added at the very last stage of cooking when the curry is almost ready. You can immediately feel the difference before and after adding the Amchur powder.
